What does hope mean for believers of Christianity? It means to have hope in the miracles of God and believe in His plans. This hope helps us connect with God and find a way to overcome our troubles.
In this blog, we’ll discuss the deeper meaning of hope in the Christian faith.
What ‘Hope’ Isn’t
The word hope in the English dictionary is very different. The Christian hope isn’t uncertain and just wishing for the best to happen. Christian hope isn’t about hoping to get a raise or hoping your team wins a match. The English word translates to not knowing what will happen but still hoping for the best to happen.
What Is Biblical Hope?
On the other hand, the Christian meaning of hope is far superior to the one found in the English dictionary. Christian hope means to be certain and assured. It’s not the desire for something good but the confidence that it’ll happen for sure.
Instead of wishing, the believer knows that their hope in the Lord is rooted in concrete evidence. Christian hope is the belief that when God says something that will happen, you have to put trust in His promise. You believe that it’ll come to pass because God had promised so, and the Lord does not lie. (Hebrew 6:18)
What Is the Deeper Meaning of Hope?
Hebrews 6:12 implies that hope and faith are synonymous. Hope is faith for the future, and so most Christian faith is rooted in hope. Like faith, hope is strengthened by hearing the word of God and from learning about His great promises.
Hope in the Lord builds anticipation, such as in Romans 8:24-25. Those who trust the Lord are eagerly long for the redemption of their bodies. Even though this hope hasn’t materialized yet, the believers are certain of it. This hope in the Lord and His ways bears sweet fruits for the believers.
God gives us gifts in the form of peace and joy; these gifts build our character and teach us the discipline of faith.

This is why Christian hope gets rid of selfishness. We’d become selfish and think of only ourselves, our problems, and our future. However, those who have hope aren’t preoccupied with themselves. Instead, they share the love of the Lord with others. God’s glory shines and manifests more when we’re free from selfishness and love others.
