4 Ways to Become a Better Christian

4 Ways to Become a Better Christian

Becoming a better Christian is not something you can accomplish in a few days or even years. It’s a lifelong journey that goes beyond going to church.

When you become a better Christian, you inevitably also become a good human being and positively impact the lives of those around you.

Here are some helpful tips to start your journey to becoming a better Christian today.

Strengthen your faith

“David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord and his God.”- 1 Samuel 30:6, AMPC

Polishing your faith is entirely your responsibility; your pastor, friends, and family can’t do it on your behalf. So how do you strengthen your faith?

One way to do this is to listen to the Word of God whenever you can. (Romans 10:17). If faith is a seed, hearing God’s Word is like watering that seed, and it nourishes your faith. Here’s how you can implement this:

  • Stream a faith podcast or BVOV broadcast in your car while you commute to work or college.
  • Listen to Bible podcastson your phone when you’re out walking, having lunch, working out, etc.
  • Watch faith-based documentarieson weekends when you’re free.

Speak the Word of God

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” –Proverbs 18:21, NKJV

Having the ability to speak is a blessing from God. You can thank Him by saying his Word whenever you can. Know that you are what you speak (Mark 11.23) and you shouldn’t waste the authority and power Jesus provided you because speaking the Word is a matter of life and death for a Christian.

No matter what challenges life throws your way or what the Devil whispers in your ears, speak about peace, forgiveness, abundance, blessing, and healing.

Watch your thoughts

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.”- Joshua 1:8, NKJV.

Your spirit is connected to your mind. If you have toxic thoughts, your behaviors, actions, and all areas of your life will be negatively impacted. Having negative thoughts means you let the Devil control your inner spiritual world.

A good Christian cleanses their mind of negative thoughts. Pay attention to your thought content throughout the day to “bring every thought into captivity” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Resist negative thoughts like “You’ll never be healed” and “You’re going to die a sinner.”

Meditating on the Word of God will help you master your thoughts and purify your inner spirit.

Join a Christian community

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”- Hebrews 10:24-25

Being around other devout Christians who embody the Word of God will motivate you to strengthen your faith. It will help you learn more about Jesus from other knowledgeable people.
